Cloghams Cricket Club was founded in 1870 on a tranquil patch of common meadow outside the village of Leaden Roding in rural Essex. For many years the Club was run by farmers for themselves and their workers. Our quaint clubhouse with its thatched roof has featured in countryside periodicals.
In 1999 Cloghams joined a senior League for the first time, followed in 2000 by the formation of a Youth Section. Membership has risen from 20 to over one hundred in seven years. During this time we have expanded our objectives and our playing facilities considerably. We are now a registered Community Amatuer Sports Club.
Cloghams won the prestigious Under 16s Essex Matchplay Challenge in 2003, and reached the Final again in 2004. Our 13s A squad won their County Central District League in 2002 and 2003 and the CEDCB Cup in 2002 and 2004. Our 13s B squad, at the first attempt, won League silver in 2005 and repeated the feat in 2006. Meanwhile Cloghams' remarkable 11s A squad completed Cup Final victories in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. Our 11s also won the 2005/06 Essex County Indoor Challenge Cup Final. Cloghams' newly-formed 11s B squad won CEDCB League 2 in 2006.
Accepting our obligation to provide a safe and competent service to our members, Cloghams now has five qualified coaches, three youth squad managers and three child welfare officers. We recently published the Club's 2nd 4 Year Development Plan.
